ON CALL - CRIMINAL JUSTICE OFFICER

 

DEPARTMENT:        CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES                       

FLSA STATUS:         NON EXEMPT

HIRING RATE:          $13.00/hr. (DOQ)

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Deliver department services on a on-call basis and in a specifically assigned area.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide coverage for Mesa County Criminal Justice Services Department and the different programs, which include:  Residential Community Corrections, Non-residential day reporting, pre-trial services, useful public service on a on‑call basis.

 

Deliver department services on a on-call basis and in a specifically assigned area that may include:

 

  • Working in a residential community corrections, or substance abuse treatment facility with duties that may include: checking clients in and out of the facility, answering telephones and doing computer entries. Will provide client supervision within a residential facility. May conduct routine searches consistent with department policy including random client body searches; room and facility searches; building and ground security checks; supervision and collection of urine specimens and breathalyzers; completion of residential count sheets; and the monitoring and verification of client activities at home, work and in the community. May provide transportation services to program clients.

 

  • Working in a non-residential-day reporting program with duties that may include: checking clients in, answering telephones and doing computer entries.  May include interviewing clients and conducting program intakes.  Additional responsibilities may include collection of urine specimens and breathalyzer tests. May supervise useful public service work crews and assignments.

 

  • Working as a case manager and providing detailed case management services to a specific caseload of clients.  May include special projects and assignments in conducting research and gathering data for various studies.

 

Initiate and maintain case records and statistical data including documentation of service delivery and client activity.

 

Transport clients in Mesa County vehicles.

 

Supervise clients during assigned shifts, including client sign‑in/sign‑out; compliance with facility rules; completion of residential daily chores; and client location monitoring.

 

Maintain current, accurate and chronological case notes, incident reports and other required documentation.

 

Use and maintain Mesa County property in a safe and professional manner.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

Education and Experience:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

 

Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) (desired)

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 60 pounds.

 

Occasional exposure of work time to hazardous situations which involve physically violent  persons, interviewing mentally or emotionally disturbed persons or bodily injury from biohazards, infections, or blood-borne pathogens.

 

Requires irregular hours and shifts including days, swings, graveyard shifts, weekends and holidays.
