Solid Waste Management
History - Mesa County Landfill

The Mesa County Landfill is operated under current state and federal regulations pertaining to the responsible management of solid waste. These regulations pertain to the protection and safety of the community by monitoring the waste stream coming to the landfill and maintaining compliance with air emissions, surface and ground water standards.

Mesa County owns approximately 1,500 acres of land in the vicinity of the landfill. The landfill is currently designed with a 126-acre "footprint" for waste disposal. Almost 60 acres of the "footprint" are now covered with waste materials. Property outside of the waste management area is utilized as open space for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
