Automated Building Inspection Requests

Activate the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system by dialing 256-1564. If you have a rotary phone, stay on the line and you will be transferred to an attendant. You will hear a greeting, after which you will be asked if you want to Request an inspection (1), Cancel an inspection (2) or Check inspection results (3). Press the number that corresponds with the action you want.

Please click on the titles to view additional information

After the greeting, press 2 to cancel an inspection. You will be asked to enter the permit number followed by the pound (#) sign. The permit number and address will be spoken back to you. If correct, press 1. If not correct, press 2 and reenter. You will be instructed, "Press 1 for a Building Inspection, 2 for a Plumbing Inspection, 3 for a Mechanical Inspection and 4 for an Electrical Inspection. Make your selection."

You will next be asked for the two-digit Inspection Code (refer to Inspection Code section). Enter it. The type of inspection will be spoken back to you. If correct, press 1. If not correct, press 2 and reenter the inspection code. You will be asked to press 1 to cancel the inspection, 2 to reschedule the inspection, 3 to cancel an inspection on a different permit number or 4 to enter another inspection type.

When you choose 2 to reschedule the inspection, you will be told the next day that the inspection can be rescheduled. If you wish to move the inspection to this day, press 1. If you wish to leave the inspection scheduled as it is, press 2.

You can always back up one step by pressing the pound (#) sign. If you make an error or enter a code that does not exist, you will get an error message. If you request an inspection type that the permit does not cover, you will hear the message, "The inspection that you entered cannot be found."

If the system is down, you will hear a message that either tells you the length of expected time it will be down or asks you to call the Building Department.

Once you become acquainted with the system, you can bypass most of the dialog by entering the desired number before the dialog finishes. You cannot bypass the speaking back of the permit number and the address.

Refer to Inspection Code section for all Inspection Codes for Automated System.
