Viral respiratory season runs from October through the end of May, typically peaking between December and February.

We track hospitalizations because it shows the severity of the illness in our community.

2024-2025 season trends

Flu hospitalizations increased from the previous season, while COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped significantly. Between October 1, 2024 and April 1, 2025, there were 302 respiratory-related hospitalizations in Mesa County, including:

  • 128 flu-related hospitalizations
  • 89 COVID-19-related hospitalizations
  • 85 RSV-related hospitalizations
