No. We only accept applications for open positions during the time they are posted open.

For the Sheriff’s Office or Criminal Justice Service Department positions it usually takes 6 to 10 weeks due to the extensive background investigation, testing and interview process.

For all other Mesa County position it usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

For a Deputy Sheriff Law Operations or Jail Operations positions the candidate must pass the following steps:

A. Criminal and Driving background check
B. Polygraph and Integrity interview
C. Physical and Drug Test
D. Report Writing or Spelling/Typing Test
E. Reference checks
F. Psychological Evaluation

For a non-deputy or civilian position at the Sheriff’s Office only, steps (A) through (E) must be completed.

Mesa County will only contact applicants that they are interested in interviewing or testing. Usually candidates are selected within 3 weeks after submission or the closing date.
