No. We only accept applications for open positions during the time they are posted open.

For the Sheriff’s Office or Criminal Justice Service Department positions it usually takes 6 to 10 weeks due to the extensive background investigation, testing and interview process.

For all other Mesa County position it usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

For a Deputy Sheriff Law Operations or Jail Operations positions the candidate must pass the following steps:

  • Fitness Test
  • Interview
  • Psychological assessment
  • Vocabulary and Problem-Solving Tasks
  • Spelling/Grammar & Locating information tests
  • Background Investigation
  • Polygraph
  • Pre-employment Psychological Evaluation Interview, Medical and Drug screening


Civilian positions do not do psychological testing or fitness test.

Mesa County will only contact applicants that they are interested in interviewing or testing. Usually candidates are selected within 3 weeks after submission or the closing date.
