On May 23, 2023, Mesa County Commissioners approved a resolution to authorize the negotiation and sale of 4.5 acres of a county-owned 9.22-acre parcel of real estate located at 512 29 ½ Road in Grand Junction. The proposed buyer is Marillac Health, a prominent healthcare provider in the region.

The property is currently owned by Mesa County, with the southern portion of the parcel housing the Mesa County Workforce Center. However, the northern part of the land has remained vacant with no identified future use. Recognizing the need for improved healthcare services in the county, Marillac Health has expressed a strong interest in acquiring the vacant land to establish a new long-term facility.

The final sale is contingent upon the approval of a boundary line adjustment and site plan required before finalizing the sale, which could take 3-5 months. The approved resolution further directs the County Administrator to execute all necessary documents, including a Special Warranty Deed, to convey the real estate to Marillac Health.

The proposed sale is seen as a mutually beneficial arrangement, as it allows Mesa County to repurpose an unused property and generate revenue from the sale, while Marillac Health will be able to establish a much-needed facility to better serve the citizens of Mesa County.
