Savia presents on Regional Sustainable Aviation Fuel Feasibility Project
Mesa County has joined Pitkin, Eagle, Delta, and Montrose Counties to explore the feasibility of producing and deploying Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the Western Slope region. SAF is made from renewable, non-fossil sources and reduces carbon emissions on a lifecycle basis.
During the Board of Mesa County Commissioners' May 6 public hearing, Savia Senior Technical Consultant Damiana Serafini and Managing Director Keith Lawless presented an overview of the project and a breakdown that includes timeline, tasks, benefits as well as an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input.
The initial goal is to deliver a comprehensive and data-driven feasibility study to assess the potential for a SAF production facility on the Western Slope. Remaining tasks include:
- Viable SAF Conversion Pathways
- Fuel Usage Projections
- Jet Fuel Supply Chain Assessment
- Site Evaluation
- Economic Viability Analysis
- Executive Summary and Final Report
The presenters shared the benefits of bringing a SAF plant to our region, including:
- Local job creation (feedstock production, construction and manufacturing)
- Creation of new markets for agricultural products and waste/residue materials
- Local air quality improvement around airports
- Waste reduction and repurposing
Stakeholders are encouraged to reach out to keithlawless2295@gmail.com or damiana.serafini@gmail.com to provide feedback by May 26.
