How the Lighthouse Program supports families in our community
Are you familiar with the Lighthouse Program offered to youth in our community who are at risk of becoming involved in mandatory systems?
The Lighthouse Program aims to provide youth and their families with education, support, and internal and external services to assist in making sustainable changes that prevent involvement in Truancy Court, Municipal or District Court, the Juvenile Justice System, or the Child Welfare System.
Involvement with the Lighthouse Program is voluntary, and the program accepts referrals from all three Mesa County school districts, school resource officers, community partners, community members, and the family themselves.
When a youth completes the terms of their Lighthouse Program agreement, it marks a positive milestone and the case is closed with success. At this point, new referrals and warm handoffs to community partners can be made to support continued growth and connection. If a youth is unable to meet the terms of the agreement, the case is closed as incomplete, and the referral source is notified to explore supportive next steps.
An exit interview provides the youth and their parents or guardians an opportunity to reflect on their experience and share feedback. We recognize that every family’s journey is unique, and we welcome future referrals.
We understand that readiness can look different for everyone, and we’re here whenever the time feels right. If you think the Lighthouse Program may be right for your family, please visit the District Attorney’s Office webpage for more information or call 970-255-5041 or email jacque.berry@mesacounty.us to request a referral form.
