State of Colorado’s Underfunded Courthouse Facility program grant application authorized
The Board of County Commissioners authorized the submission of a $1.575 million grant application to the State of Colorado’s Underfunded Courthouse Facility program during their Sept. 24 public hearing. If awarded, this grant is intended to help fund the ongoing Mesa County Justice Center improvement project, demonstrating Mesa County’s commitment to providing modern, efficient court facilities that meet the increasing demands of our legal system.
For the past three years, Mesa County, in collaboration with the 21st Judicial District, has been working to address growing space concerns for judicial services. While additional courtrooms are currently being designed and constructed within the existing Justice Center at 125 N. Spruce St., this solution is temporary.
To meet long-term needs, the County is seeking state funds to help cover the design costs for a proposed 107,520-square-foot annex. This annex would connect to the Mesa County Justice Center and provide ample space for the Sheriff's Office, District Attorney, and judicial functions for decades to come.
