The Colorado Works Program, also known as TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), provides short-term cash assistance and personalized support to help families find stability, secure employment and achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

This program is available to pregnant women and families with one or more children in the home. To qualify, families must meet specific income and eligibility requirements before being referred to a case manager for ongoing support.

You can apply for Colorado Works in person at Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS) or the Mesa County Workforce Center (MCWFC). You may also apply online through the Colorado PEAK website.

Applicants must provide documentation for all household members, including proof of income, resources, age, Social Security numbers, housing costs and work or school status. Participation in child support enforcement activities is also required.

Once approved, families receive monthly assistance through an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. The benefit amount depends on several factors, including family size and income.

Each participant partners with a Colorado Works case manager to outline activities and goals that move the family toward self-sufficiency. Case managers work closely with teams at the MCWFC to connect families with job training, employment opportunities, and other resources.
