The Board of Mesa County Commissioners began their May 6 public hearing by formally declaring May 4 - 10, 2025, Correctional Officers’ Week in Mesa County.  

Correctional officers are trained law enforcement professionals dedicated to maintaining secure correctional facilities and ensuring the public’s safety.

The Chair of the Board of Commissioners, Cody Davis, read the proclamation into the record, and the commissioners gave thanks to correctional officers and highlighted their crucial leadership role in our community. 

Sheriff Todd Rowell spoke of the importance of the work correctional officers do each day to keep our community safe and shared insights into the job’s demands and challenges. 

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeffrey Byrne expressed appreciation to the officers and support staff who make it possible to successfully run a detention facility. 

Thank you to all correctional officers for your tremendous work and dedication to protecting our community under the most challenging circumstances.
