Transfer Station

The Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility offers free disposal of your live, holiday tree. The facility is open Wednesday-Saturday from 8 to 4:15.

Don't forget to remove lights, tinsel, ornaments, and the stand from the tree before dropping it off.

Flocked or artificial trees are not eligible and will not be accepted.



As the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to unfold, the health and safety of our employees, our customers, and the community we serve is our highest priority.

The Mesa County Landfill is OPEN to the public during the SAFER-AT-HOME period; however, residents are encouraged to utilize their commercial waste hauler and only visit the landfill when absolutely necessary.

The Hazardous Waste Collection Facility is OPEN for residential drop-off, but closed to material re-use. The Organic Materials Composting Facility is OPEN with reduced hours. 

The Mesa County Solid Waste Management team is actively following the advice of our public health officials and industry experts. We will respond to escalated situations as needed.
We wish you good health and safety as we all work through this together. 


To limit overtime costs, ALL customers must be unloaded/loaded by our closing time.

High Wind Notice - Per Colorado regulation, Transfer Stations are required to close during periods of high winds. If you plan on visiting on a windy day, please call prior to coming out to ensure the facility is open.

Disposal Fees and Waste Acceptance Policy


Fruita, Gateway, Molina & DeBeque 

1. Personal Vehicle: 3/4 ton or smaller

$15.00* per load (truck & trailer is considered two loads)

2. Trailers/Large Trucks

$15.00* per load (truck & trailer is considered two loads), limited to trailers/trucks with less than 9 feet of bed length

3. Special Waste: Soil, sludge, etc.

* Cash or Check Only.  Transfer Stations will not accept bills larger than $50.  

Other Wastes Prohibited for Disposal at the Mesa County Transfer Stations  

  • Business waste.
  • Hazardous Waste including but not limited to: waste containing free liquid, auto batteries or wastes containing mercury, electronics. Contact the Hazardous Waste Collection Facility for disposal options 256-9543.
  • Tires (accepted at the Mesa County Landfill- <22.5" off rim $5, on rim $10, >22.5" off rim $10, on rim $20).
  • Appliances containing Freon.
  • Animal carcuses (accepted at the Mesa County Landfill).
  • Materials which produce large quantities of dust when disposed.
  • Material that could combust during periods of hot weather.

    If in doubt, please contact the facility to determine whether we can accept your waste at a Transfer Station.
