Vehicle Identification Inspection (VIN) information

Non-certified VIN inspection

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office provides both on and off-site VIN inspections for unincorporated Mesa County.

The title or registration must be presented at the time of the verification.

On-site VIN inspections

Tuesdays 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Thursdays 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

Fee: $10

Off-site VIN inspections

Require you to visit the Records Lobby in person to schedule and pre-pay for your inspection.

Fee: $10.00 

We accept the following methods of payment to pay fees:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Money order
  • All major credit cards (with additional fee)

Certified VIN inspection

Contact the Colorado State Patrol at 970-858-2250.

The following are some examples that MAY require a Certified VIN:

  • Bonded title vehicles 
  • Rebuilt vehicles
  • Vehicles assembled from a kit
  • Most trailers

VIN verification system

  • Check a vehicle's VIN information before you make a purchase to make sure it is not stolen. 
  • You can use the Motor Vehicle Verification System from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to check the status of your vehicle.
