Have you noticed brown patches or irregularly shaped dead spots in your lawn? These could be signs of Japanese Beetle grubs munching on your grass roots.

Your turfgrass and ornamental plants aren’t the only things the Japanese Beetles are after. These invasive beetles, declared a public nuisance by the County Commissioners in 2023, are a significant threat to our community. They target grapes, peaches, sweet corn, trees, turfgrass, and ornamental plants, posing a huge risk to Mesa County’s produce and agritourism industries.

If you notice unexplained damage to your grass:

  • Check for Japanese Beetle grubs on your lawn
  • Use CSU Extension’s website to help you identify beetle grubs
  • Give the CSU Extension a call at 970-244-1834 to identify grubs
  • Treat your lawn with grub control granules such as GrubEx

Your vigilance and action can make a big difference in our fight against this harmful beetle. When reporting grub sightings and treating your lawn, you help protect your neighbors, local farmers, and the entire community.
